Bio

Wei Shen (b. 1988) is an artist currently living and working in Chicago, IL. Originally from Hefei, China, he received his Post Baccalaureate from the painting and drawing program at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2017, where he is presently a second-year MFA candidate. His works explore symbolic narratives of intimate issues regarding the framing of the figurative bodies of humor, tragedy, and the visceral desire. He mainly uses oil paints combined with oil pastel, crayon, acrylic, or calcium carbonate to create his works. Through the constant exploration of materials, he wants his works to breathe freely to further activate their vitality and immediacy.
