Skye Taniai was born in Yamaguchi, the westernmost prefecture of the main island of Japan. She spent the first half of her life there. In 2016 she received a BFA in painting from University of Missouri. Her work can be described as looking at current events that are happening in Japan through the use of technology (social media, online news, online articles) and collaging them in a sophisticated way. Since she does not go back to Japan often at this point in time, technology has become her main mode of connecting to her own country.
