Bio
Katherine Marra was born in Jamaica, Queens, NY and raised in the town of Baldwin in Nassau County on the south shore of Long Island, NY. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Cornell University and a Master of Landscape Architecture from the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University. She has worked as both a molecular microbiologist and a landscape designer. Since 1994, she has resided in the western suburbs of Chicago with her husband and three children. Currently, she is an MFA candidate in the Department of Painting and Drawing at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her paintings and drawings explore how water moves and shapes space. To do this, she constructs mazes and pours water-based paints through them, pressing the trace of the water’s path onto canvas.
