This artist talk will address the importance of the body as it relates to material hierarchy and craft, queer identity, and transforming loss. These will be talking points for discussing significant projects and art exhibitions.
William J. O'Brien (b. 1975, Eastlake, OH) received a BA in Studio Art from Loyola University in 1997, and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2005. Recently featured group exhibitions include Peres Projects, Berlin as well as upcoming solo exhibitions in January 2017 at Marianne Boesky Gallery, New York, NY and The Kentucky Museum of Arts and Crafts, Louisville, KY. O’Brien’s work is in several public and private collections including those of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Miami Art Museum, Hara Museum of Art, Tokyo, and the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles, CA. He is a recipient of the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Award.
