Removing a people from their architecture leaves the subject people with an overbearing sense of longing for the time & place which has been denied to them. This state which moves past the immigrant’s nostalgia, and into the diaspora’s Saudade; nostalgia affords the hope of return; while Saudade a permanent state of hopelessness. My works attempt to understand the state of Saudade in architecture, and the historical often subconscious attempts at remedying this state; most currently in the examination of the destruction of Sacred Spaces in Northern Iraq by I.S.I.S and the proposal of prophecies and promises for their reconstruction.
