3 ACRES ON THE LAKE : DuSable Park Proposal Projects

When I am bored with typical parks, I go to the DuSable Park to lie down in my own private meadow:
1st level : Natural Promenade

When I am tired of city life, I want to go near the water's edge, DuSable Park:
2nd level : Static Promenade

When I need some wild playground to rumble and tumble, I go to the DuSable Park:
3rd level : Dynamic Promenade

When I want to experience unexpected happenings, I go to the park for fun:
combined level

CONCEPT DESCRIPTION

SITE

DuSable Park is now on the isolated fringe of Lake Shore Drive, an existing infrastructure within the city. This space has much potential in terms of being a "condensed edge with energies," a "legendary spot," and an "unused meadow of the linear landscape carpet in Chicago."

Contemporary parks have many weaknesses in a sense of the standardized concept, program, and enclosed community. This congestion will be more compacted even to some distortion degree. If we use the park superficially, on the ground level, as what it is, we cannot accommodate our neighbors who are looking for a place within the city to relieve their stress. Only trees and flowers cannot give us some real rest.
With these reasons, I propose that DuSable Park should become an eventful place combined with three different types of promenades: natural, static, and dynamic. Sometimes these three promenades at different levels happen to pass through one another or become isolated or entangled with one another. This means that I can choose an area of the park according to my inclination and desire – to be alone or get together. And, if I head for some unexpected events, I can approach my neighbors, activities, and even my own unconsciousness.
For the first level, I propose maintaining the original meadow with a natural water edge (No Man's Land). But we should try to make the soil fertile more and more Someone might be longing for private time to see the sky with his back on the meadow, alone.
For the second level, I suggest the introduction of the city axis toward Lake Michigan very statically. This is more like the horizontal threshold between the city and the waterfront. This threshold can be characterized by noise, views, and accessibility.
For the third level, I propose to make random promenades for a variety of dynamic activities appearing like tangled yarn of the vast linear green carpet similar to other lakefront parks. This yarn penetrates the original meadow and the lower-level static promenade yielding some event nod combined according to these three level elements.

Prologue

If park is built according to typical format, people have no choice but to get used to our boring park or just miss "the little house on the prairie". These different characteristic programs yield so various and different event combinations in the form of promenade. In DuSable Park, we can see vertically one blue-collared worker is lying down under the tall tree (natural level), one stessed-out teenager is doing aroma therapy with leaves of the trees (static level) and some fat lady is running the track crazily. Come to DuSable Park and let you lie down your own meadow or experience bunch of fresh events!
