DuSable Park Proposal Project
Concept Description: Proposed is a monumental landmark sculpture, entitled "Water Spirits." The two human figures constructed of patinaed silicon bronze and polished brass represent the unity of all peoples of all races that make up the citizens of Chicago. This concept of unity honors Jean Baptiste Point DuSable. The figures hold aloft an ancient water vessel, symbolizing our deep connection with the life-giving water, rivers and lake, that all of Chicago is dependent on. It is envisioned at 100 plus feet. This destination point landmark would be visible from the waterside/lakeshore areas as well as all along the waterfront. Lit up at night, "Water Spirits" would become a focal point and beacon, visible from land, lake, and air. The 3/4 view shown faces northwest and is impressive. The 3/4 view toward the southwest would also be spectacular, with the Amoco/EON Tower and the Chicago skyline as a breathtaking backdrop. The monumental sculpture would augment a simple landscaped scheme. We feel this monument could easily be funded through private and corporate donors.
