Project
Proposal: Three Acres On The Lake: DuSable Park Proposal Project People would
gather on the overpass, which would serve as a balcony of sorts for this
performance. Trucks carrying
white marble chips, sand, and other types of rock would enter the park
and dump the stone in designated areas of the park...visualize the wavelike
flow of stone out of the truck, and the sound of the truck shaking/thumping
its bed to deposit the stone. In the proximity
of the stone deposit (both beneath, and above ground) would be microphones
which would send the sound of the trucks arriving, and the stone being
deposited to a small cluster of speakers (located in the park). The speakers
would be mounted on tall stem-like stands 7-10 feet above the ground. After the
initial dumping of stone a computer would begin to incorporate real time
environmental sounds with those of the initial (now past) deposit of stone.
There would emerge a mix of real time and "historical" environmental
sounds. These sounds
would blend and fade with each other. The real time sounds being spotlighted
with a lower presence/interaction of recorded environmental sound mix. I envision 3-5 instances of stone being dumped on the site through out the piece...this could happen during one performance or at more delayed instances during the installation. Scher,
