Title: DuSable Park

|
|
Here are the several considerations that I would like to achieve through this design. First, since Dusable Park is located in the waterfront, Michigan Lake plays an important role in the site. Therefore Design for Dusable Park should consider the methods how to enhance water experience in the site. The view of Lake Michigan shouldnt be interrupted by vegetations providing open view to the East and the South sides. Therefore, large trees should be put on the West and the North sides. These will be help to cover upper and lower Lake Shore Drive and give some privacy to the site from the Navy Pier entrance way. Second, the site itself should intrigue curiosity providing different perspective views from different directions, holding some delightful features in secrete and revealing them at some point. I hope that little waterfall feature will have some sort of this kind of effect. It conceals its existence from the Southwest entrance. As we approach to Lake Michigan, we can find the little waterfall. It holds active and dynamic characteristics of water making a pleasant contrast with still, calm Lake Michigan on a sunny, peaceful day. Another consideration is the several dense layers of vegetations-canopy trees, understory trees, shrubs and groundcovers-around the Northeastern direction of the Dusable Statue area. I hope it will give visitors an illusion as if they are entering an unknown deep forest although it is relatively short. Then, they encounter a small opened plaza with the Dusable statue. The visitors looked down the Dusable Statue from the Southeast entrance, but at this time, the visitor look up the statue due to topographical change. The last,
although Dusable Park isnt small, it looks like relatively small
space because surroundings are big, huge. Therefore, when we put deciduous
shade trees, I feel we should consider choosing middle fine texture trees
over tall rough texture trees. It will help the site look a little bit
bigger than the actual size. Sujin
