2013–14 RESIDENCY OPPORTUNITIES FOR FACULTY & FULL-TIME STAFF

March 1 Deadline for 2013–14 RESIDENCY PROPOSALS
SAIC is pleased to announce opportunities for residencies intended for creative renewal for its faculty and full-time staff who are artists, designers, writers, and scholars.

This year the school is pleased to support three residencies—one regional, one national, one international—with availabilities during summer 2013 through summer 2014. Since 2000, over 300 faculty and full-time staff have completed residencies in New Buffalo, Michigan; Catskill, New York; or Krems, Austria.

The application deadline is Friday, March 1, 2013.

APPLICATIONS: This year all applications must be completed through SlideRoom, an online application database. Click on a residency in the left-hand toolbar to find out more about each residency and how to apply. No hardcopy applications will be accepted.

ELIGIBILITY: All full-time faculty and part-time faculty currently teaching in the degree program, and all full-time SAIC staff who are artists, designers, writers, and scholars. Please note that only faculty are selected for Catwalk, and full-time faculty have priority for New Buffalo summer residencies .

CRITERIA: Selections are based on the strength of the proposal, especially those to complete a specific project or produce new works that have relevance to the region or site. Priority consideration is given to applicants who have actively contributed to the school community. Other criteria considered include record of professional achievements, the length of tenure at the institution, annual teaching load (for faculty), and the candidate’s history of awards from SAIC. The school makes every effort to conscientiously and equitably distribute awards from the requests received.

Residency opportunities include:

Roger Brown Residencies in New Buffalo, Michigan in 2013–14: Faculty and full-time SAIC staff are awarded two-week residencies in a fully furnished, architect-designed home and studio bequeathed by alumnus Roger Brown. Summer residencies are typically awarded to full-time faculty, while sabbatical faculty, part-time faculty, faculty with flexible schedules, and full-time staff are scheduled between September and May. Amtrak train available to New Buffalo, but use of car is recommended.

Krems, Austria Exchange in 2014: SAIC selects one or two recipients (faculty and full-time SAIC staff) for the summer residency exchange in Austria. Residencies are either one or two months in duration, from June 15 through August 15, 2013. Residents are provided with living and studio accommodations in a multi-use arts complex, and SAIC provides $1,500 travel funds in support of the Krems Exchange. Knowledge of German is not essential, but very helpful.

Catwalk in Catskill, New York in Summer 2013: SAIC selects two faculty for three- to four-week residencies at the Catwalk artist-in-residency program in Catskill, NY during summer 2013. Each resident is provided an individual, furnished living space and creative use of the extensive 65-acre grounds that border the scenic Hudson River. The Dean provides round-trip airfare and car rental or other expenses related to round-trip travel, not to exceed $1,000 per residency.

REVIEW AND SELECTION: All submissions are reviewed by members of the Dean's Selection Committee, which includes the Deans, Division Chairs, and elected full-time and part-time faculty representatives. Individual recipients are contacted via SAIC email in April.
