Porous Light Barrier
The variation in size and shape of the openings in this porous barrier allow light to pass through, creating shadows and light that flow into adjacent spaces. The light that is emitted through the porous barrier interacts with objects in the space, creating a unique array of visual phenomena that fuses structure and light. |

Fly-Eye View
A window screen of grey felt with hundreds of lenses embedded into it. The lenses provide a multiple view of what is on the other side of the screen. The felt blocks light, the lenses allow light to pass through. The lenses will be placed to create a pattern or image that can be seen from far away. Up close is the fly eye view of the city. |

Leaning 2x4s
The 2x4 is an iconic building material, easily recognized, but rarely celebrated. Embedded LED’s reveal patterns of light fading in and out across the surface of the boards. |

Dapple
Inspired by an image of light passing through a pool of water, this fixture seeks to recreate a similar experience using LED lights and a rotating, pierced cylindrical shade. Reflections, formed by the manipulation of the fixture, send this phenomena dancing over the surfaces of your environment. |

18% Finished – an exhibition giveaway
18% Finished is about sharing the class’s exploration of light with the public. It is a kit that asks the recipient to edit light with our tools and their imagination. It is a filter, a sculpture, a shade and a little bit of 18% Grey to take home. |

Mirage Chandelier
Crocheted aluminum ball chain paired with LED lights generate a layered shadow which expands the breadth of the original object. |

Light Ledger
A pop-up book that takes you on a journey through light, form and shadow. |

Sonia Shim
Pleated Shadow
Fragmentation of light across a large surface creates an environment that is defined by shades of gray. To achieve this, folded paper provides facets for light to interact with and creates subtle changes in the tonal qualities the surfaces. |

R. Blair Schmidt
Frame it Grey
A spatial interior frame that creaties specific exhibit environments for the individual experiments of 18% Gray while serving as a link to a complete context. The fragmented walls create interactions with the spatial light as well as multiple sight-lines of the experiments. |

Glimmer
The upright beams of wood embedded with fiber optics are representations of the contrast between the natural and the artificial. |

Watson
Watson is a light box with two perceivable surfaces. While the first
surface is purely luminous, the second surface is one of opacity and ornament,
visible only by peering through a polarized loupe. The ornamental elements are
designed so that different patterns emerge from their intentional
rearrangement. In this way, those "peering" share a dynamic experience that is
invisible to the rest of the visitors, who can, however, be brought into the
interaction by peering themselves. |
