The Art of Connection is an annual exhibit organized by the second year graduate students in the Master of Arts in Art Therapy program at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. The exhibit highlights the significant potential for change, connection, and communication inherent in the making of art, and fosters increased understanding of art therapy within the public sphere. The work will be on display from March 10th until March 23rd, 2007, with an opening reception on Saturday March 10th 6:00 – 7:30 pm.

The Art of Connection show represents collaborations between the graduate art therapy students and participants at cooperating internship sites. The work is a testament to the ability of art to serve as a bridge between an individual's external and internal experiences, between one person and another, among groups of people, and between individuals and their cultural context.

Art therapists work in settings ranging from residential treatment programs, schools, after school programs, prisons, homeless shelters, medical hospitals, nursing homes, social service agencies, private practice sites, and more. In addition, art therapists work with child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations. The works presented in the Art of Connection exhibit reflect this wide range of practices, with media varying from traditional to alternative.
