Art Way of Thinking: Venetian artists' collective artway of thinking--Federica Thiene and Stefania Mantovani--will lead students in this immersive experience moving between SAIC and Chicago's vital artists-initiated institutions. First, you will share three days with colleagues from these artists' spaces and organizations as you join together in a workshop 'Co/Operare' aimed at revealing and consciously experiencing processes of collective creative processes. Then, head out to the field, to some of these artists' organizations, working in a series of team and individually, as you probe the questions and challenges facing these organizations. Finally, make it show! Working collaboratively, you will materialize the knowledge gained and relationships experienced over the few weeks. Imagined as a kind of mapping on the first floor of Columbus, this will be an embodiment of the Chicago artists' community. This collaborative artwork will launch the Spring semester's 'Meta-Matta-Clark' series: special projects commemorating Gordon Matta-Clark, who was a catalytic force in the creation of New York's Soho artists' community in the 1970s. This program is held on the occasion of the artist's retrospective at the MCA.
ART ON LOCATION started as a class at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and has emerged as a collective.
