Sullivan Galleries: Full Schedule

This year marks the 15th anniversary of Roger Brown’s death, as well as his gifts and bequests to SAIC. This exhibition explores the subjects of sexuality, homosexuality, and HIV, which Brown painted in many guises throughout his 27-year career, through the context of culture, landscape, politics, illness, and eroticism. Curated by SAIC dual degree graduate student Kate Pollasch-Thames in collaboration with SAIC’s Roger Brown Study Collection, this exhibition explores a significant, as yet unexplored current in Brown’s career. The show includes works from SAIC’s collection, private collections from around the country, and archival materials reflecting Brown’s deeply personal thoughts and experiences.

The Roger Brown Study Collection will also be showing Afterimage, a series of micro-exhibits featuring artwork, art collections, and source material in concert with Roger Brown’s collection preserved on premises curated by Chicago artists Carl Baratta (MFA 2005), Onsmith, and Edra Soto’s (MFA 2000). On view September 14–November 18 at 1926 North Halsted Street.
