Mythologies

December 8–January 4
Reception: Friday, December 7, 4:30–7:00 p.m.
Sullivan Galleries, 33 S. State St., 7th floor

This exhibition explores the attitudes of artists compelled to locate themselves within the mythology of identity through the lens of popular culture and mass media. As the center of global cultural production shifts, so does our relationship to the results of that cultural production.  The exhibiting artists cultivate a contemporary revision in attitudes towards “otherness” through a variety of approaches. Many of the works in Mythologies reference the vernacular of pop culture and mass media in projects ranging from fiber, installation sculpture, photo, video, and scheduled performances, as these media have legacies that are ripe for continued engagement in a discussion about identity.
