Conor Stechschulte has been drawing self-publishing comics for more than a decade. In 2014, Fantagraphics published his debut graphic novel, The Amateurs. This past year he completed the handmade book, Christmas in Prison as well as the second installment of his graphic novel, Generous Bosom, published by Breakdown Press.
In fog and vagueness, as in the gap between comic strip images, the mind makes up what is missing. Comics is a constant play on the binary of presence and absence. For that reason it is a medium uniquely suited for telling the kinds of stories I am drawn to—stories where effects are explicit but causes are missing and where what is witnessed or desired is beyond what one is able to accommodate or understand.
