For me consumer objects evoke both promise and containment behind their brightly wrapped transparencies. I view consumer culture as a mirroring of our desires—what we often purchase are romantic idealizations of self that carry more substance than the actual product. This is where I find a pathos and humor in contemporary existence, and I want to express vulnerability conversely through products of manufactured perfection.
This theme informs my latest work, which combines mixed media, with an emphasis on digital photography and transparent vinyl into large-scale sculptural two-dimensional works.
