Bio

Julia Gladstone is a choreographer working in movement, video, and sculpture to unearth hidden relationships between objects, bodies, emotions, and ideas. Her work takes interest in locating animation within the artificial, and the inorganic within the living. Unsettling the notion of a body as defined by its cohesion, unity, and mass, Julia imagines how else bodies might function when the myth of their containment has been broken. Julia has choreographed, performed, and collaborated on multi-media projects with many artists internationally and has worked as a videographer and administrator for arts and cultural institutions in the US and Germany. Most recently, Julia developed a new duet work, ORTAK through residencies at P.A.R.T.S/Rosas in Brussels and Yasmeen Godder Studio in Tel Aviv. In the past, she has worked with choreographers Aretha Aoki, Paul Matteson, and Yuli Kovbasnian. Julia received her BA from Hampshire College in Amherst, MA, and is currently a Performance MFA candidate at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
