As an art therapist, Givens has worked in inpatient psychiatric facilities, home-hospice care, domestic violence centers, and self-esteem groups with adolescent girls. She is also a cofounder of the Black Art Therapists Collective. Givens's visual art practice includes a jewelry design business, mixed-media painting, and found object assemblage.
