Nicholas Ostoff's artistic practice is predicated on explorations of quotidian space. Recently, Ostoff has been focusing on overlooked elements within the domestic sphere, such as surface marks, reflections, cast shadows, and fragments of banal, commonplace objects. Through his painterly process, Ostoff is interested in transforming these visual phenomena in order to highlight a series of dialectical relationships between: representation and abstraction, presence and absence, proximity and distance, and familiarity and the uncanny.
