Chicago, IL—The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), home to the GFRY Studio in the Department of Architecture, Interior Architecture, and Designed Objects, announced August 22 it has received $75,000 as part of the Innovation Generation grant program from the Motorola Solutions Foundation, the charitable arm of Motorola Solutions, Inc. Through the grant, SAIC will offer its seventh GFRY Studio to 14 eligible undergraduate and graduate students.

Chicago, IL—SAIC faculty member Mary Jane Jacob has been awarded a landmark Curatorial Research Fellowship from the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts to study Chicago’s role in the development of socially engaged art practices, both ongoing and historical. The $50,000 fellowship—the maximum Curatorial Research Fellowship amount awarded by the Warhol Foundation—is the first grant that SAIC has received from the Warhol Foundation since 1995, and is also the largest that the school has ever received from the foundation.

Chicago, IL— Exhibitions at SAIC are a significant resource for the school community and the city at large. The Sullivan Galleries—along with the Student Union Galleries and other temporary locations on and off campus—are engaged as sites of interaction, experimentation, and dialogue among students, faculty, and alumni, as well as places for collaboration with Chicago’s artists and other cultural institutions. Information on over a dozen fall/winter presentations is presented below.

Chicago, IL—Visiting Minds. Lasting Influence. The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) is pleased to announce the newest lineup of guest speakers for its Visiting Artists Program (VAP), continuing a tradition endowed 60 years ago. All events are free and open to the public. VAP hosts two seasons of public presentations by artists and scholars each academic year through lectures, symposia, performances, and screenings.

The community of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) mourns the passing of its distinguished alumnus LeRoy Neiman (1947–50, honorary doctorate 2006), a painter and illustrator whose impressionistic sketches and paintings of sporting events and what he called "the good life" made him one of the most popular artists in the United States. Neiman passed away Wednesday in New York. He was 91 years old.

Massey, President of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), received the Enrico Fermi Making History Award for Distinction in Science, Medicine, and Technology on Wednesday, June 6, at the18th annual Making History Awards presented by the Chicago History Museum.

Chicago, IL—Emerging designers from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) present new work at The Future Perfect Pop-Up Shop in NoHo May 19–June 8 during New York's International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF). Their project, whatnot, premiered at Milan's foremost independent design showroom, Spazio Rossana Orlandi, for the Salone Internazionale del Mobile (International Furniture Fair) in April.

CHICAGO—Chicago, IL—A new industry partnership between the Sony Digital Media Academy (SDMA) and the Earl and Brenda Shapiro Center for Research and Collaboration at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) will facilitate innovative and expressive applications of digital media technologies next fall on the largest school-museum campus in the United States. SAIC's participation in SDMA brings cutting-edge Sony equipment to two projects, impacting both undergraduate and graduate curricular opportunities.
