SAIC Presents Fashion 2013 on May 3, Tickets on Sale March 20

Anke Loh, Sage Chair in Fashion Design at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), announces Fashion 2013, the school’s 79th annual fashion show. Presented Friday, May 3 three times throughout the day on Millennium Park’s Chase Promenade, Fashion 2013 will culminate with THE WALK—SAIC’s annual benefit supporting the production of student work and scholarships—at 5:30 p.m.

SAIC Announces Jean Goldman Book Prize

Chicago—On October 31, 2013 the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) will award a juried literary prize for the best recent visual arts publication by a member of its faculty. Underwritten by art historian and Art Institute of Chicago Life Trustee Dr. Jean Goldman and known as the Jean Goldman Book Prize, the award will be announced at a kick-off reception benefiting SAIC on April 3 co-chaired by Karen Frank, Jean Goldman, and Ellen Sandor.

Chicago—Under the leadership of physicist and SAIC President Walter Massey, the Conversations on Art and Science event series was launched in 2011 as a new forum exploring critical perspectives on art, science, design, and technology.

SAIC Announces 2013 Commencement Speaker and Honorees

Chicago, IL—Acclaimed American actor, playwright, and professor Anna Deavere Smith will deliver the commencement address to the 2013 graduating class of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) on Saturday, May 18, at the Frank Gehry-designed Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Chicago’s Millennium Park. Along with architect Jeanne Gang and artist Joe Zucker (SAIC BFA 1964, MFA 1966), Smith will receive an honorary doctorate from SAIC to recognize her achievements and commitment to the arts.

IN>TIME Performance Festival Runs through March 2

Chicago, IL—Chicago's coldest months are warming up with the energy of performance art. The city of Chicago and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) host the IN>TIME performance art festival, featuring both international and local artists exhibiting in 14 diverse venues across the city. Organized by SAIC faculty member and Graduate Coordinator Mark Jeffery, the festival will showcase outstanding performance work from January 11–March 2, 2013.

SAIC Student Designs New Logo for Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce

Chicago, IL - The Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce Tri State Alliance for Regional Development recently unveiled its new logo designed by SAIC student Tracy Lee (BFA 2015). Lee is a second-year student pursuing a BFA with emphasis in Visual Communication Design, and was also a finalist last Spring in the contest to design Bank of America's Kennedy Expressway Wall Mural.

Spring Season of Visiting Artists Program Announced

Chicago, IL— Visiting Minds. Lasting Influence. The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) is pleased to announce the newest lineup of guest speakers for its Visiting Artists Program (VAP), continuing a tradition endowed 60 years ago. VAP hosts two seasons of public presentations by artists and scholars each academic year through lectures, symposia, performances, and screenings.
