The School of the Art Institute of Chicago Establishes the Vivian Maier Scholarship Fund

Chicago, IL—The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), one of the nation's leading art and design schools, announced the establishment of the endowed Vivian Maier Scholarship Fund. The need-based scholarship was made possible by generous donations from Ravine Pictures' John Maloof and Charlie Siskel, and art gallerist Howard Greenberg.

Conversations at the Edge (CATE) Returns to the Big Screen Thursday, March 27

Conversations at the Edge (CATE), the screening and visiting artist series organized by the School of the Art Institute of Chicago's (SAIC) Department of Film, Video, New Media, and Animation (FVNMA) in collaboration with the Video Data Bank and the Gene Siskel Film Center, returns to the big screen on Thursday, March 27, with a multimedia talk by new media scholar and curator Christiane Paul.

SAIC Exhibition Space Opens on Chicago's Magnificent Mile

900 North Michigan Shops in conjunction with the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) present a collaborative exhibition space, SAIC at 900. Located on level six of 900 Shops across from Bloomingdale’s, the SAIC at 900 space showcases rotating exhibits of art and design by SAIC students and alumni.

Standard & Poor's Upgrades Art Institute of Chicago's Bond Rating

Standard & Poor’s announced today that it raised the Art Institute of Chicago’s long-term bond rating to AA- with a stable outlook from A+ positive outlook. In its release, Standard & Poor’s Ratings Services cited numerous factors that contributed to the upgrade, singling out “strong institutional leadership and management to produce such results in a stressful economic environment,” as well as a consistently sound operating performance and continued plan of scheduled debt reduction.

"Faculty Projects" and "Tracing Affinities" Open December 13

The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) proudly showcases the work of its faculty and students in Faculty Projects and Tracing Affinities, opening Friday, December 13, from 4:30–7:30 p.m., at SAIC’s Sullivan Galleries (33 South State Street, 7th floor). Both exhibitions, which are free and open to the public, run through February 15. They open during the final stage of a popular run for another major SAIC exhibition, News from Nowhere: Chicago Laboratory.

Gift Contributes to Establishing Donation from Advertising Firm Ogilvy & Mather

Chicago, IL— The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) is pleased to announce a significant contribution to the Justyna Palka Memorial Scholarship Fund, renewed through a generous donation from the family of SAIC alumna Justyna Palka (BFA 2009). The gift contributes to an establishing donation from advertising firm Ogilvy & Mather. Founded in 2011, the merit-based scholarship is awarded to a student in his or her junior year within SAIC’s Department of Visual Communication Design.

Record Number of SAIC Community Members Prepare for Whitney Biennial

The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) recognizes its community members selected to participate in the 2014 Whitney Biennial in New York City, March 7–May 25, 2014. Nearly 20 of the 103 artists announced as participants in the next Whitney Biennial have ties to the school.
