SAIC Names Craig Barton As Provost And Senior Vice President Of Academic Affairs

CHICAGO—The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), a global leader in art and design education, announced the appointment of Craig Barton as the School’s provost and senior vice president of academic affairs. Concurrent with this appointment, Barton joins the faculty of the Department of Architecture, Interior Architecture, and Designed Objects as a professor. Barton comes to SAIC from Arizona State University where he is a professor of architecture and urban design and the director of The Design School at the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts.

SAIC Faculty Jesse Ball and Five Alumni Named 2016 Guggenheim Fellows

CHICAGO—The John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation has named Jesse Ball, Professor of Writing at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) as a 2016 Guggenheim Fellow along with five SAIC alumni. The award recognizes men and women who have already demonstrated exceptional capacity for productive scholarship or exceptional creative ability in the arts.

SAIC Student Nyugen Smith Named 2016 Leonore Annenberg Arts Fellow

CHICAGO—The Leonore Annenberg Fellowship Fund for the Performing and Visual Arts has announced that School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) Master of Fine Arts (MFA) student Nyugen Smith is one of nine early-career artists awarded grants from the fund. As an Annenberg Fellow, Smith receives $50,000 a year for two years to help him further his artistic practice and achieve professional success. The only visual artist on the list of winners, Smith begins his fellowship upon completing his MFA at SAIC this summer.

Products from 15 SAIC Students to be Featured at the World Renowned Milan Design Week

CHICAGO—The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), a global leader in art and design education, announced the launch of whatnot 2016, a collection of designed objects from students within its Architecture, Interior Architecture, and Designed Objects (AIADO) department. The collection will be revealed at Spazio Rossana Orlandi during Milan Design Week in Italy, April 12–17.

SAIC Receives $2 Million Gift from the Crown Family

CHICAGO—The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), one of the nation’s leading art and design schools, announced a $2 million endowment gift from Paula and James Crown, Nancy and A. Steven Crown, and the Crown Family Philanthropies. The gift will endow a full professorship to be known as the Crown Family Professor in Painting and Drawing. The gift comes while SAIC is in the midst of a year-long celebration of its 150th Anniversary.
