The social aesthetics of jazz and improvised music have a distinguished, creative history in Chicago. This talk considers the role of contemporary platforms in this historical continuum, as embodied in the organizational design and artistic direction of the Hyde Park Jazz Festival.

Kate Dumbleton is the Artistic and Executive Director of the Hyde Park Jazz Festival and an Assistant Professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in Arts Administration and Policy. Her work organizing and programming jazz, improvised music, and performance spans more than two decades.
