Mierle Laderman Ukeles to Deliver Commencement Address for the School of the Art Institute of Chicago

CHICAGO—The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), a global leader in art and design education, will welcome celebrated artist Mierle Laderman Ukeles who will deliver the School’s commencement address on Monday, May 13, at Wintrust Arena, 200 East Cermak Road. Ukeles, an activist artist known for her feminist works, will receive an honorary doctorate from the School, along with esteemed honorees, photographer Dawoud Bey, whose latest body of work was recently featured at the Art Institute of Chicago; filmmaker Isaac Julien and cartoonist and SAIC alum Chris Ware (SAIC 1991–93).

SAIC Names Martin Berger as Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs

SAIC appointed Martin Berger as the School’s provost and senior vice president of academic affairs. Berger previously served as the School’s dean of faculty and vice president of academic affairs.

Rosalie Shemmer Joins the School of the Art Institute of Chicago as Dean of Career and Professional Experience

CHICAGO—The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), a global leader in art and design education, has named Rosalie Shemmer as the School’s dean of Career and Professional Experience (CAPX). Shemmer will lead SAIC’s career office, where she will oversee career advising and institution-wide programming initiatives, internship programs, new employer relationship development and the School’s Fulbright application program, which has led SAIC to produce more Fulbright scholars than any other art and design college in the United States.

The School of the Art Institute of Chicago Presents Fashion Designer Henrik Vibskov in His First U.S. Residency

CHICAGO—The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), a global leader in art and design education, presents Copenhagen-based fashion designer Henrik Vibskov in his first artist residency in the United States. Through a collaboration with the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago (MCA) and the IN>TIME performance festival, Vibskov will install as part of the residency “Henrik Vibskov : 0000 : State on State,” a multimedia exhibition including fashion, film and a massive paper installation at SAIC’s Sullivan Galleries, on view from Feb. 7 through 14, 2019.
