The John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation has named Jefferson Pinder, Professor in the Department of Sculpture at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) as a 2017 Guggenheim Fellow along with SAIC alum, Laura Ann Harrison (SAIC 2014–17).

A life spent speaking truth to power and seismic changes in political order have led SAIC alum Tanya Bruguera (MFA 2001, HON 2016) to direct her first play at the Mosteiro de São Bento da Vitória in Portugal as part of the Biennial of Contemporary Arts. The performance, a rendition of Samuel Beckett's Endgame, augments the play's notorious incomprehensibility into a treatise on relationships to power.
