WBEZ: Assaf Evron Describes Chicago's Creative Influence

On October 3 WBEZ arts and culture reporter Alison Cuddy profiled recent SAIC alum and Israeli artist Assaf Evron (MFA 2013). Evron’s work is currently exhibited in Trunk Show, located in Chicago’s Eckhart Park, and A Study in Midwestern Appropriation, a group exhibition at the Hyde Park Art Center curated by SAIC faculty member Michelle Grabner (Painting and Drawing). Originally from Tel Aviv, Evron describes his move to Chicago as a liberating experience. “In Israel I was very much doing photographic work. Here I could break expectations and make more sculptural and conceptual work,” he says. “Chicago has been a great influence on my work. I want to use this momentum to generate as much work as I can.” A Study in Midwestern Appropriation, which features work from a number of SAIC community members, runs through January 12.
