Voice of the Survivors
The Cable Access Network CAN-TV has developed a segment on the Chicago Torture Justice Memorials Project (CTJM) and the Sullivan Galleries exhibition Opening the Black Box: The Charge is Torture. The five-minute video developed by local producer Carrie Ruckel, filmed at the opening of the exhibition, features interviews with CTJM organizer Joey Mogul and several surviving torture victims. “The memorial as a torture survivor means a great deal to me. It means that our voices are being heard and it mean that America hasn’t forgotten about us,” says Marvin Reeves in the segment. “I feel like coming here and coming to an event that addresses torture is like a breathe of fresh air.” The segment was aired four times in December and remains available on YouTube.
