THE WALK Promises “Sartorial Panache”
“As galas go, the School of the Art Institute’s ‘The Walk’ easily qualifies as one of the splashiest in town,” says Crain’s Chicago Business writer Lisa Bertagnoli. In a full-page article published on April 29 on the inside back cover, Bertagnoli details the extensive production behind the glamorous event, highlighting contributions from faculty members like Conrad Hamather, who is producing the gala’s fashion show. The Walk is expected to gross over $470,000 to fund student work and scholarships, and as Vice President for Institutional Advancement Cheryl Jessogne notes, it provides a unique opportunity for students to showcase their collections in a professional setting. Emerging SAIC designers Gnat Brilmyer (BFA 2013), Kara Fenoglietto (BFA 2013), and Sam Salvo (BFA 2013) offered a sneak peak of the upcoming runway event on FOX program Good Morning Chicago on April 29. “I call it a laboratory of ideas for fashion,” said Style Reporter Barbara Glass about The Walk. “Its so exciting to see what these students are doing. They’re so brilliant with so many new ideas.” On April 30 Chicago magazine’s Sales Check newsletter—received by over 11,000 subscribers each week—spotlighted the upcoming fashion festivities, including the SAIC pop-up shop coming up May 10–19 at Block37.
