The Reader Highlights Faculty Member’s Cultural Center Scavenger Hunt

On February 23 Chicago Reader writer Deanna Isaacs highlighted SAIC faculty member Jan Tichy’s (Art and Technology) multipart exhibition and scavenger hunt aroundcenter, open at the Chicago Cultural Center through April 27. The show features three galleries filled with “Chicago-centric” photographs and videos, including student work, Tichy’s own videos, and documentation from citywide photo projects Chicago Landmarks and CITY 2000. “The rest of it is a scavenger hunt that'll have you navigating the building's farthest reaches,” explains Isaacs. “Map in hand, you'll be searching out installations, most of which are clues to something in the building's (or the city's) history.” Installations include History of Painting, composed of 6,000 color slides from SAIC's art history collection hung over three massive windows. “To see them, you'll have to go where the public seldom treads, up the final and most exquisite flight of the city's most gorgeous staircase,” says Isaacs. “Tichy wants you to explore the building.”
