The Mechanical Eye in the Digital Age

On Sunday November 11 the News Gazette of East Central Illinois announced the opening of a photography exhibition curated by SAIC alumna Peggy Shaw (MFA 1986) at the Parkland College Art Gallery. Shift: Contemporary Photography Exhibition showcases accomplished photographers utilizing contemporary processes and technology. "Photographers have always had to integrate creativity, technology and process—responding to light, adjusting lenses, translating pixels to paper," says Shaw, describing the exhibition’s focus. "As photography evolves, photographers must, but what is truly revealing are the ways they respond: Open to both contemporary and historical processes now considered alternative, subject and process are twisted to reveal new ideas." Shaw’s photographic and video works have exhibited nationally and received numerous awards. She currently works as an associate professor of photography and video at Parkland College. Shift runs through February 2.
