The LeRoy Neiman Center Wins AIA Design Excellence Award

On October 25, the Chicago Chapter of the American Institute of Architecture (AIA Chicago) awarded the LeRoy Neiman Center at SAIC its 58th Annual Design Excellence Award for Interior Architecture at the AIA 2013 Designight. The Design Excellence Awards honor the best of outstanding work from Chicago architecture firms found all around the world. The LeRoy Neiman Center is among nine winners selected from more than 269 entries in the category of Interior Architecture. Designed by Valerio Dewalt Train Associates, the LeRoy Neiman “combines offices and spaces for meeting, studying, lounging, and dining while offering a sense of identity to the student body.” The Architect’s Newspaper also showcased SAIC’s “central gathering place” on May 13 in the image-heavy article “Art School Confidential.” The space is “simple, sophisticated, just edgy enough to be appropriate for an art school, but not too overpowering for performances and exhibits,” explains VDT principal Mark Dewalt.
