The Great Refusal Featured in Newcity and Bad at Sports
September 21, 2012—The September 20 issue of Newcity gave Chicago readers the latest review of The Great Refusal: Taking On New Queer Aesthetics, on view at SAIC’s Sullivan Galleries through November 10. Contributor Bert Stabler (BFA 1997, MAAE 2003) identifies a unifying tone of the exhibition, writing that “nostalgic melancholia now typifies much of queer theory” before noting that “the negativity embedded in the title makes a thematic demand that much, but not all, of the work is equipped to address.” Local arts podcast Bad at Sports also featured the exhibition on its Top 5 Weekend Picks on September 13.
