SAIC Community Members Receive 3Arts Awards

3Arts, a Chicago-based nonprofit advocating for women artists, artists of color, and artists with disabilities, has honored two members of the SAIC community with unrestricted grants to pursue their work. Associate Professor in the Department of Film, Video, New Media, and Animation Tirtza Even and alum Juan-Carlos Perez (BFA 2002) will each receive an award for $25,000.  For the past 10 years, 10 artists from the six-county Chicago metropolitan area working in the performing, teaching, and visual arts have received awards from the organization.

Alum and Lecturer Wins Meier Achievement Award

Chris Bradley (MFA 2010) an SAIC alum currently teaching in the School's Contemporary Practices and Sculpture departments, is one of four recipients of this year's Meier Achievement Award from the Helen Coburn Meier and Tim Meier Charitable Foundation for the Arts. The Meier Achievement Award, a cash prize, is given every year to a handful of midcareer artists who are talented and persistent in their craft.

Nato Thompson Slated to Lead Philadelphia Contemporary

Philadelphia Contemporary may still be looking for a home, but it just found its artistic director. Nato Thompson (MA 2004) has been selected to lead the institution—as of yet a series of poetry readings, midnight vigils, sculpture installations, and interactive art projects at various sites throughout the city.
