Student's Short Film On the Short List for Prestigious Cannes Award

The Festival de Cannes nominated Needle, a 21-minute short film by SAIC student Anahita Ghazvinizadeh (MFA 2013), for its renowned 2013 Cinéfondation Prize. Ghazvinizadeh’sfilm is among 18 contenders selected from over 1,550 entries submitted from 277 schools worldwide. The three Cinéfondation Prizes will be awarded at a ceremony prior to the screening of the winning films on Friday, May 24th in the Buñuel Theatre. RedEye Chicago reports that Ghazvinizadeh will attend the festival to see the screening. The Iranian filmmaker speaks highly of the SAIC community members who supported and worked on the project, saying, "I had a chance to have a community to work with in Iran, and by being at SAIC, as soon as I came to Chicago I was able to form a new community of people here, which was very helpful.”
