SAIC Played a Part in "Immortalizing" 1,000 Chicagoans on the Crown Fountain
Chicago icons Millennium Park and the Crown Fountain are celebrating their 10th anniversary this year. The School of the Art institute of Chicago has a special relationship with the fountain, as reports the Chicago Tribune. As part of a drive to realize Spanish artist Jaume Plensa's vision, students, faculty, and staff of SAIC put out a call to more than 180 community groups for volunteers whose faces would go on the fountain. In two shoots in 2003 and 2004, SAIC recorded 80 second clips of 1,000 Chicagoans, which are now "anonymous, yet famous faces seen by huge numbers of people from around the world". In the article, participants in the shoot reminisced about seeing themselves on the fountain and how they feel immortalized by it.
