On November 6 Loyola University New Orleans announced a lecture by alumnus David R. Harper (MFA 2011) sponsored by the Department of Art and Design. Employing a variety of materials, Harper is known for “refashioning traditional medium into something never seen before.” The lecture coincides with the artist’s exhibition Better Still: New Work by David R. Harper at Antenna Gallery in New Orleans. “Playing off of the imagery and ideas surrounding the notion of ‘Still Life,’ this body of work uses unfamiliar tactics to address our notions of death,” says Harper. “The collection of works chosen for this exhibition, in some way or another, address death not by focusing on the loss of life, but what remains when life is no longer present.”
