SAIC Community Project Influences Arts Educators
On October 3, SAIC professor Claudia Hart (Film,Video, New Media, and Animation) kicked off the Art Institute of Chicago’s annual teachers conference. The keynote speaker of the event, Hart encouraged educators to “consider the intersection of contemporary artistic practice and classroom instruction.” She also presented On Synchronics, a collaborative artwork created with 24 of her former SAIC students and funded by a grant from the Shapiro Center for Research and Collaboration. The media project will be exhibited this fall at the Daegu Center in Korea and the ZKM Museum in Germany. In 2014, it will be shown on the Streaming Museum network of screens in public spaces around the world and on streamingmuseum.org. It will then be developed into a performance work for IMC Lab and Gallery and Eyebeam Art and Technology Center. Contributing SAIC artists include Nadav Assor (MFA 2011), Sophie Barrett-Kahn (MFA 2013), Rhys Bevan (BFA 2011), Lauren Elder (BFA 2012), André Lenox (BFA 2012), Evan Lenox (BFA 2012), Miao Jiaxin (MFA 2011), Brook Jonquil (MFA 2011), Brian Khek (BFA 2012), Peter Kusek (MA/MFA 2013), Michael Mallis (MFA 2011), Mikey McParlane (MFA 2012), Shane Mecklenburger (MFA 2010), Harold Moss (BFA 2008), Negin Sharifzadeh (BFA 2008), Katie Torn (MFA 2012), Diana Torres (MFA 2012), Nancy Tien (MFA 2011), Yara Travesio (MFA 2011), Wesley Wilson (MFA 2011), Yefeng Wang (MFA 2012), Lantian Xie (MFA 2012), Vicky Yen (MFA 2012), and Jihoon Yoo (MFA 2012).
