SAIC Community “Keeps Chicago in Tune”

Newcity highlighted SAIC alumnus Mike Reed and faculty member John Corbett (Painting and Drawing) in its July 18 edition “Music 45: Who Keeps Chicago in Tune.” Reed, “director and booking agent extraordinaire” for the Pitchfork, Umbrella, and Chicago Jazz festivals and founder of new Chicago venue Constellation earned the number 10 spot. Corbett, co-founder of Chicago gallery Corbett vs. Dempsey, ranked 39th for his discovery and conservation of the Sun Ra archives just prior to their destruction. The tapes now reside at the Experimental Sound Studio, “the gathering place for local progressive musicians.” Recently, SAIC President Walter Massey participated in a panel with Joe Shanahan, on the list at number 18, regarding the importance and vitality of the creative economy in Illinois.
