SAIC Community Grabs Newcity's "Best of Chicago" Spotlight

Newcity’s October 31 “Best of Chicago” issue, the 21st edition of its signature annual, spotlights a number of brilliant SAIC projects and community members. Featured alumni and faculty include Shawn Decker (Sound), awarded “Best Sound Art” for his installation Prairie at the Chicago Cultural Center; “Best Puppy Artwinner Puppies Puppies (MFA 2013); Cheryl Pope (Fashion, MDes 2010), whose exhibition Just Yell at Monique Meloche Gallery received “Best Art Exhibit At a Gallery”; Trunk Show co-founder Raven Munsell (MA 2014), awarded “Best New Art Gallery on a Car Bumper”; “Best Sculpture By a Painter” recipient Andrew Holmquist (BFA 2008, MFA 2014); "Best Dressed Artist” winner Jenny Kendler (MFA 2006); and Corbett vs. Dempsey founder John Corbett (Painting and Drawing), awarded “Best Booth at Expo Chicago.” The feature also highlights Low-Res MFA faculty member Josiah McElheny's current installation at the Arts Club of Chicago, named “Best Revitalized Old Guard Art Space.” Newcity also named the Chicago Artists Coalition, led by Director of Exhibitions and Community Initiatives Courtney Lederer (MFA 2009), the “Best Opportunity for Emerging Artists.”
