SAIC Community Dominates Newcity’s Art 50
September 28, 2012—SAIC faculty and alumni dominated Newcity’s inaugural Art 50 issue released September 20 (circ. 40,000), together comprising 30 of the 50 noted artists. Celebrating Chicago’s Artists’ Artists, Art 50 presents a compendium of the city’s most illustrious creative influencers. “If you’re an artist in Chicago,” Newcity explains, “it’s likely that a handful of these artists trained you, or showed you that art was even a possibility.” Congratulations are in order for faculty members Gregg Bordowitz (Film, Video, New Media, and Animation), Nick Cave (Fashion Design), Barbara Crane (Emeritus Photography), Gaylen Gerber (MFA 1980, Painting and Drawing), Michelle Grabner (Chair Painting and Drawing), Phillip Hanson (MFA 1968, Painting and Drawing), Doug Ischar (Photography), Jason Lazarus (Photography), Jose Lerma (Painting and Drawing), Jim Lutes (MFA 1982, Painting and Drawing), Lou Mallozzi (BFA 1978, Sound), Jim Nutt (BFA 1967, Painting and Drawing), A. Laurie Palmer (MFA 1988, Sculpture), Scott Reeder (Painting and Drawing), Tyson Reeder (Painting and Drawing), Richard Rezac (Sculpture, Painting and Drawing), Kay Rosen (NG 1971, Faculty), Jan Tichy (MFA 2009, Art and Technology), Anne Wilson (Fiber and Material Studies), and Karl Wirsum (BFA 1961, Painting and Drawing).
