SAIC Alumnus Represents United States at Venice Int’l Performance Art Week

SAIC alumnus Joseph Ravens (MFA 1998) participated in the first ever Venice International Performance Art Week through December 15. Dedicated solely to the work of contemporary performance artists, the event united 31 international artists from around the world. Ravens’s work combines elements of visual art, dance, and theater, utilizing the human form to “activate objects and environments or personify intangible ideas.” The artist presented live performances KattyWampus and Ravenous and exhibited his single-channel video installation Hirsute (2012) and photography work Triptych (2010). Ravens is founder and executive director of Chicago’s Defibrillator Performance Art Gallery and director of Rapid Pulse Performance Festival
