New York-based photographer Susan Unterberg has finally come forward as the previously anonymous donor behind unrestricted grant program Anonymous Was A Woman. Unterberg has paid out a total of $5.5 million over 22 years to support underrecognized female artists, some of whom include SAIC faculty and alumni.

SAIC alum Ramón Jiménez Cárdenas (BFA 2018) was recently featured in an article in Fast Company for his project Mending Wall, a series of eight grappling hooks he created as a response to the designs being considered for President Trump's proposed wall along the US's southern border. Although the objects are not meant to be truly functional, their symbolism (one is in the shape of a house) becomes a "hopeful statement that the practical and ideological forces behind the border wall can be defeated," reports Fast Company.

Emil Ferris (BFA 2008, MFA 2010) won three Eisner Awards for her debut graphic novel My Favorite Thing Is Monsters. She won Eisner Awards in the Best Graphic Album–New, Best Writer/Artist, and Best Coloring categories.

CHICAGO (JULY 17, 2018)—The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), a global leader in art and design education, launched a new online store featuring sleek branded apparel and gear befitting of a world-renowned art and design school. Top items from the collection include a monochromatic crewneck sweatshirt, beanie, travel mug and tote bag, as well as a “No Art Making in Restrooms” pin, a nod to campus signage that famously appears at the entrance to some SAIC restrooms.
