SAIC Alumna Curates the Guild Literary Complex’s Palabra Pura

Maribel Mares (MFAW 2009) is curating the July 2014 edition of Palabra Pura—the Guild Literary Complex’s longest-running bilingual reading series. In an ambitious multimedia reading to be held on July 18 at La Bruquena Restaurant (2726 West Division Street, Chicago), Mares promises that “Palabra Pura will travel to Mexico City, Korea, and Haiti via our writers to explore the cross cultural experiences of a dancer, an educator, and a poet.” Poet Darren Angle will present a reading of his poetry juxtaposed with a slideshow of his travels through Haiti, while Mexican-American educator Mayra Jimenez will Skype from Korea and expand upon her experiences in the East; and Mexican dancer Yesika Perez will read about her mixed heritage and her work as a dancer.
