SAIC Alum Katie Chung Paints Mural for Observation Deck
School of the Art Institute of Chicago alum Katie Chung (BFA 2014) was featured on WTTW in anticipation of her mural for the 360 Chicago Observation Deck. Locals Only spans across seven windows, 1,030 feet above Michigan Avenue. It honors the neighborhoods that make up the fabric of the city in vignettes.
Chung is a Chicago native whose work is typically based in textiles and drawing of personal and private themes. While she does pay homage to her own Korean heritage in the mural through the Obangsaek color scheme, she notes that this work is an opportunity to consider the broader Chicago community.
