President Massey Explores the Arts as a Means to Economic Growth

On March 13 SAIC President Dr. Walter E. Massey participated in “Arts, Culture, and Economic Prosperity,” an event hosted by the Arts Alliance Illinois in partnership with Governor Pat Quinn, Americans for the Arts, the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Specials Events, and JP Morgan Chase. Highlighting the impact of the arts on Illinois’ economy, workforce, and community vibrancy, the event aimed to illuminate strategies to sustain and grow jobs in the arts and to establish the arts as a more prominent part of local economic development. In a panel discussion moderated by Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events Commissioner Michelle T. Boone, President Massey joined Metro/Smart Bar owner Joe Shanahan and JPMorgan Chase Senior Banker for Government, Not-for-Profit and Healthcare, Kyle T. Williams to address opportunities to leverage the arts as a means to enhance economic growth.
