Paula Crown Brings Art to Ideas Festival—and to Fine Dining
Paula Crown (MFA 2012) is making headlines from Chicago to the Great Divide. Her installation, Inside My Head: A Contemporary Self-Portrait, just premiered at this year’s Aspen Ideas Festival (Aspen, CO), and will be on view through September 3, at the Isaacson History Room at the Aspen Institute. Also located in Aspen, The Little Nell hotel recently opened the doors of its new restaurant, Element 47, featuring works by Crown as well as Angel Otero (SAIC BFA 2007, MFA 2009), Raphael Vega (SAIC MFA 2012), and SAIC Painting and Drawing faculty members José Lerma, Scott Reeder, Philip Vanderhyden, and Michelle Grabner (Chair). Crown recently introduced Anna Deavere Smith, SAIC’s commencement speaker, at this year’s Commencement Ceremony. She is also currently collaborating with fellow Chicago-based artist Theaster Gates on her sculpture series titled PERforations.
