Nick Cave Presents an “Excursion of Sight and Sound”
On June 6 the Wall Street Journal previewed faculty member Nick Cave’s (Fashion) new exhibition, Nick Cave: Sojourn, at the Denver Art Museum (DAM). The show features 40 of Cave’s new works, including a series of ceramic dogs lounging on vintage furniture and 25 of the artist’s famous Soundsuits. "There's definitely a theatricality to the work and to the show that's quite potent," says exhibition curator William Morrow. On June 5 Reporter Herald writer Lynette Chilcoat spotlighted the exhibition’s 80 foot tunnel crafted from panels covered with thousands of buttons. “Monumental in size, the corridor serves as both the entrance to the exhibition and the beginning of an extraordinary excursion of sight and sound,” Chilcoat says. On June 9 the Huffington Post published a 17-image slideshow depicting Cave and Morrow as they lead a group of visitors through the exhibition. The post also includes a video of dancers during an open-call audition for Cave’s upcoming Soundsuit performance on June 28 at the DAM. Nick Cave: Sojourn opened June 9 and runs through September 22. Cave’s work is also featured in the solo show The World Is My Skin at Denmark’s Trapholt Museum through September 8.
