Newcity Releases First-Ever Design Hall of Fame along with Design 50 List

Newcity released its annual Design 50 list along with a special Design Hall of Fame, honoring those who drive the creation of form, function, and beauty. Considering leadership, influence, and vision, the list includes people who "lead Chicago's design ecosystem into steady, collaborative growth, those who make a splash putting the city in the national and international spotlight and those, whose up-and-coming nature doesn't compromise their big ventures, visions, and ideas," says Newcity.

For the first time Newcity released a Design Hall of Fame—a list of folks who've made the Design 50 list again and again and are cornerstones of Chicago's design scene. Included in the hall of fame are founder of MAS Studio and AIADO Lecturer Iker Gil, Stephanie and Bill Sick Professor of Fashion, Body and Garment Nick Cave, founder of Rebuild Foundation Theaster Gates (HON 2014), and founding principal of Studio Gang Jeanne Gang (HON 2013).

Many SAIC alums and faculty made the list, including Rachel Kaplan (MA 2015), deputy director of the Chicago Architecture Biennial; Lecturer in the Visual Communication Design department Tanner Woodford, who is also founder and executive director of Design Museum of Chicago; fashion designer and Assistant Professor in the Fashion Design department Abigail Glaum-Lathbury (BFA 2006); Zurich Esposito (MS 1998) executive vice president of AIA Chicago; Director of Architecture, Interior Architecture, and Designed Objects (AIADO) Jonathan Solomon; founder of Rebirth Garments Sky Cubacub (BFA 2015); cofounders of We Are Material Professor Emeritus of Fashion Design Andrea Reynders (BFA 1971) and Adjunct Professor of Art History, Theory, and Criticism Gillion Carrara; fashion designer Maria Pinto (BFA 1990, HON 2017); and cofounder of Lost Girl Vintage Sarah Azzouzi (BFA 2011).
